How to Stop Data Theft from internal sources

Securing your Virtual Environment

Posted on Friday, 20 January 2012 in General

Multiple physical servers being virtualised and placed on one piece of hardware (host) poses new security challenges. Virtualisation adds layers of technology thus increasing the security management burden by requiring additional security controls. Combining many systems onto a single physical computer can lead to a larger impact if a security breach happens. Some virtualisation environments make it easy to share information between systems. Poor control of these vritualisation features can lead to new attack vectors. Virtualised environments can be quite dynamic, making administration of the necessary security boundaries more complex.

We can do a few things ensure our virtual environmet is going to be secure:

  1. Secure all elements of a virtualisation solution and maintain their security
  2. Protect and restrict administrator access to the virtualisation environment
  3. Ensure that the hypervisor is properly secured
  4. Carefully plan the security for a virtualisation solution before deploying it

Security

Posted on Thursday, 19 January 2012 in General
Is the Anti Virus on your computer enough to protect you, your data and your money. If major companies are getting hacked what chance do little companies have.
Think it has to come down to - do not be the easy target, never load any software unless you know what it is and who is telling you to load it. Make sure your Anti-Virus is up-to-date or fully managed and get SonicWall gateway protection to protect your whole network.
If you are concerned about security then give us a call.

Once upon a time it used be to good enough to just backup your data. If the server died you would rebuild the server and reload the data, that could take 2 to 3 days.

ICT Security for Small Business

Posted on Friday, 09 December 2011 in General

Security isn't just for the large corporates. What makes you think that people aren’t ready to steal your secrets or just practice their hacking techniques on your system. You probably won't even notice that someone is accessing your system. If you are lucky you might stumble across several user names that have administrative access. You may then look a little further and see profiles for these users on your server. You might then start to panic. Hay - IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.. wake up! Secure your systems!

Make sure you know the ins and outs of the security features of your operating system. Have up-to-date firewall and antivirus programs in place.
